Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

CS Go

If you have a PC and some time to kill, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is one of the best first steps you can take toward enjoying a team-based first-person shooter. In this game, two teams of five players take on the roles of terrorists and counter-terrorists and engage in gun battles using realistic props and equipment.

Launching over 10 years ago, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was not always available for free. Now is a fantastic moment to give the game a try, as it is still receiving updates and has a sizable esports community.

Danger Zone is a mode in CS:GO that offers a battle royale experience with a realistic shooting mechanic. Call of Duty: Warzone is another option for console players on PS4 and Xbox One. Remember that Counter-Strike 2 will be here before you know it!

Valorant

valorant

If I were to compare it to another game, I’d say Valorant is a cross between CS:GO and Apex Legends. It takes aspects from Apex, a hero shooter, and merges them with CS:GO’s framework. Valorant is a good option if you like the 5v5 format but prefer a less realistic setting than CS:GO.

Another tactical shooter with a plethora of playable heroes is Valorant. Pick an agent and get ready to place or detonate a bomb while eliminating the opposing squad. The shooter has been out for a little over two years, but its community and esports scene are already thriving, and it’s only getting bigger from here.
If you want to avoid paying any money, you can do so in the same way as in CS:GO by avoiding the store of weapon cosmetics.

Apex Legends

Free Gaming Frenzy: Discover The Top Free-to-Play Games for July 2023

Those of us who enjoy the battle royale genre will enjoy Apex Legends because it allows us to use the skills of a wide variety of heroes and legends in fight. Apex lets you win as a trio, a duo, or even test your trio’s mettle in the 3v3 Arenas.

Both Valorant and Apex Legends are new shooters developed by the same studio responsible for Titanfall 2. The first-person shooter has been out since 2019, yet its popularity is rising as it reinvigorates the genre.
Another huge plus is that you can play this shooter on platforms other than PC.

The game is playable on PC, consoles, and mobile devices, with the option to engage in cross-platform play. However, as you may guess, cross-play isn’t possible between smartphones and consoles or PC.

Splitgate

Splitgate

A good way to describe Splitgate is as what you’d get if you mashed up Portal and Halo, or any other out-of-this-world first-person shooter. A definition, please. Now, picture being thrown into an arena with other players, where you must fight while also having access to portals.

It’s almost rudely satisfying to sneak up on your enemies and take a few pot shots before ducking back through your portal to safety, but that’s the optimal strategy for playing Splitgate. Because of the portal feature, the first-person shooter has a lot of room for innovation in terms of movement and combat.

If you’re not in the mood for the sci-fi FPS’s combat just yet, there’s a great race mode that I’ve actually spent more time with than the main game. In this game, you won’t need any firearms; instead, you’ll use your portals to race across a map in search of disco balls. If I may say so myself, trying to break those seemingly unbreakable world records is fantastic mindless entertainment.

Rocket League

rocket league

Another game that benefited greatly from becoming free after being initially priced paid is Rocket League. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the combination of football and racing, but it hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the game.

You won’t see me in a racecar by myself, but I have the greatest pleasure when I’m working with a buddy toward a common goal. I find it funny that I’m so bad at it, and it’s even funnier when I manage to score one by accident. In most cases, I might add, it’s an own goal.

Rocket League is perhaps ideal for passing the time, since its games are just the appropriate duration to allow you to jump in and out. You may play Rocket League casually and have a lot of fun, or you can crank up the competition and show off your real skills.

League of Legends

League of Legends

Riot Games, whose roster of free-to-play multiplayer games is constantly expanding, has once again made an appearance on this list with League of Legends. Inspiring itself from WarCraft 3, this multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game provides players with a tactical experience that is slightly more friendly than Dota 2, which will be featured on our list shortly.

You can choose from a variety of heroes, each with their own set of strengths and weaknesses, and increase your hero roster either by spending real money or by earning in-game currency called IP. Although newcomers to the MOBA genre are welcome in League’s 5v5, the tactical game is still challenging.

League of Legends is a MOBA where you can have fun even if you never become a Grandmaster or Challenger. However, that’s only true if you play with friends, as League has a lot of problems with toxicity from players (which Riot is attempting to fix with honor rewards and other measures).

Dota 2

dota2

Dota 2 is another multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) based on WarCraft 3, and it features two teams of five players each vying to eliminate the opposing team’s base. You’re probably already familiar with the format, but be assured that Dota 2 provides its players with as much of a challenge as possible.

Combating waves of hostile creatures while trying to take out the opponent stronghold requires close coordination between players. There is still room for newbies in Dota 2, despite the game’s intimidating appearance and high learning curve for those who have never played a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA).

Dota 2 is one of Steam’s most played games and a major draw for esports fans, and neither the game nor its community appear to be slowing down any time soon. Dota 2 is a game worth investing in if that’s what you’re looking for.

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact is among the most accessible and well-liked gacha games ever made. You’ve probably heard that Genshin has microtransactions if you’ve heard of it but haven’t tried it. You can also buy Primogems outright with real money, utilize them to speed up the roll for specific heroes, etc.

Now that we get that out of the way, we can say that Genshin Impact is a really profitable although pocket-sized RPG adventure that provides quite a bit of entertainment without requiring any out-of-pocket expenditures. As you gain experience and access to more features, you can form the ideal party of four to explore and battle in a world full with quests, ruins, and monsters.

Farming artifacts and the like with pals feels really heartening, and each character and place comes with its own narrative to appreciate. Whether you’re diving into the main story or just wandering around aimlessly, the world of Teyvat has much to keep you occupied and entertained.

Hoyoverse also provided us with the space-based Honkai Star Rail. In this free-to-play game, you’ll also use the Astral Express to travel to different planets, just like in Genshin Impact. If I may say so, the writing in Honkai Star Rail is also far better (and funnier) than that of Genshin Impact.

Hearthstone

hearthstone

If you’re thinking about trying out Hearthstone, Blizzard’s massive online card game, I’d want to warn you that you’re probably going to get hooked. You won’t want to play another round of League or Valorant, or log into World of Warcraft tonight; instead, you’ll be itching for more Hearthstone time. The card game is also based in the Warcraft universe, which is convenient.

In Hearthstone, players construct a 30-card deck tailored to a specific hero and their available resources, and they must carefully allocate their mana to cast spells and call forth creatures like minions. Though simple to learn, mastery requires hard work if you want to be the greatest.

Hearthstone’s accessibility means that game can be played on a wide variety of systems. The only drawback is that you may need to make a few in-game purchases before you’re satisfied with your deck-building abilities. You may also satisfy your urge for card games without spending any money by playing Pokémon Trading Card Game Online, which is free and has no microtransactions..

Pokémon Unite

Pokemon Unite

For Switch and smartphone, Pokémon Unite is a multiplayer online battle arena in which two teams of five battle it out. Instead of fighting each other, you and your team will face off against NPC trainers for points; the team with the highest points at the end of the ten minutes will be declared the victor.

It’s a basic setup with a lot of entertainment potential. The maps each have their own unique’mons, and you’ll get to see yours level up as the matches go on. Playable on mobile devices, this is a necessity for Pokémon fans who also enjoy the idea of team battles.

Overwatch 2

overwatch 2

We’ve been keeping an eye on shooters like CS:GO, Valorant, and Apex Legends, but have you heard anything about Overwatch 2, Blizzard’s free-to-play first-person shooter?

You’ve probably heard of Overwatch 2, and you’ve definitely heard about how dissatisfied players are with the game’s in-game advertising. Overwatch 2 has in game monetization variety of characters and game types to get stuck into if you’re in the mood for a 6v6 hero shooter and can look past the superficial details.

Fortnite

Fortnite

Lastly, but certainly not least, is Fortnite. Despite its notoriety and the fact that you may not enjoy the prospect of being trampled by a group of zoomers, Fortnite is awesome. To win this battle royale, all you have to do is make it to the island’s center and start shooting and looting. If this isn’t your cup of tea, you can always check out the many user-created games available in Fortnite’s Creator Studio.

For a long time, I resisted playing Fortnite. I was skeptical at first, but after giving the game a try, I realized how much fun it is and how many things there are to do besides kill other people. Sherif also admitted that he is having so much fun with Fortnite that he dislikes it.
