Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog, writes a blog post in which he talks about The Last of Us’ legacy and the future of the franchise. Druckmann says that fans will learn more about the long-awaited multiplayer experience that is a follow-up to the original game’s “Factions” mode. The HBO adaptation starts on January 15, and the PC port of The Last of Us Part 1 comes out in March. Druckmann writes,

Along the way, we’ll have some fun surprises for you, but later this year, we’ll start giving you more information about our ambitious The Last of Us multiplayer game. With Vinit Agarwal, Joe Pettinati, and Anthony Newman leading the team, the project is shaping up to be a fresh, new experience from our studio that is still rooted in Naughty Dog’s passion for creating amazing stories, characters, and gameplay.

Also, Naughty Dog shares a new piece of concept art, which you can see in full below. This is the first new information about the game since the first concept asset was released last June. It shows two people who have survived heading toward a broken-down cruise ship.

This year, we’ll learn more about the game, but it’s still unclear if Naughty Dog plans to release it in 2023. Given the anniversary, which would make sense, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens over the next few months.
